Vermont Artisan Robin Chase of Maple Corner Woodworks:

Friday Douglas and I traveled around Vermont to check in with a few of our fine furniture makeres.  Our last stop was at Maple Corner Woodworks to see our friend Robin Chase.

Robin's been crafting beautiful fine wooden furniture for over 25 years and it's always fun to visit his workshop in pastoral Calais, Vermont.  Besides seeing all of his works in progress we got to tour the Maple Corner campus and meet the furry sentinels that guard and patrol the grounds (see photo).

It was a very productive meeting and it didn't hurt that it was in a setting of Robin and Annie's herbal gardens and central Vermont's rolling hills.

I see Robin's furniture as a reflection of his own demeanor: elegant, refined and genuine.  He's a master at combining authentic Shaker sensibilities with modern, contemporary design.  Each of Robin's pieces is backed by the craftsman's lifetime guarantee.

Robin, again, let me compliment you and your team at Maple Corner Woodworks on building beautiful and fantastically crafted furniture.  We have two of your bed frames plus four nightstands and numerous cabinet pieces for two of our bedrooms.  The furniture is just a delight to be around.

Hi Robin,

Thank you again for this wonderful bed. It feels like sleeping in a piece of artwork. Thank you for what you do and create. I am so grateful to have a beautiful and well-made bed. I feel so much more grounded now; some Vermont in Texas works wonders for me.

I want to thank you and those responsible for building the credenza I bought.  It is truly a work of art.  Instead of this being a piece one thypically wants to hide away from view with all the files inside, this is a gorgeous piece of furniture, impeccably finished and about as high a quality as I've ever seen.  Also, very impressed by the delivery team.  They did a great job, were always in communication with me for delivery, were considerate and right on time.  Thank you!

We want you to know how much we love your craftsmanship.  We bought a bedroom set and kitchen table.  Each piece is a work of art.  We hope to come visit your shop one of these days.  But until then....thank you!

Robin,

This exceeds anything we ever dreamed of!  Every piece is just spectacular. Thank you to the moon and back!

I returned home from a writing retreat yesterday to find my maple Shaker writing desk assembled and waiting. It's quite simply beautiful, and exactly what I needed. It is so exquisitely crafted I keep opening and closing the drawer, amazed at how smooth it is, and stroking the grain! It is the first piece of "real" furniture I've ever bought for myself. There' s a palpable difference sitting at a desk made from living wood as opposed to all the fake industrial substances out there. Thank you!

Good morning.

May I ask, who is responsible for designing the Harvest Moon dresser? Here is why I'm asking...

I bought the dresser several years ago. Many mornings, when I wake up, I find myself looking at it and marveling at the design. I am not a terribly spiritual person, but when I look at that piece furniture, it centers me. The design seems to transform a piece of furniture that is utilitarian, into a work of art. Please pass on my comments to whoever designed it. It reminds me that we are capable of creating beauty...which is in short supply these days.

We also purchased a couple of end tables in the same design, and another for delivery end of this year.

Regards,

Doug Wintz
