Our Philosophy
Maple Corner Woodworks began in 1982 in a modest shop in Vermont with the highest standards for quality, consistency and design. Over the years as our business and reputation have grown, our craftsmen have kept and improved upon our original vision. We are a team of dedicated furniture makers, taking pleasure and satisfaction in every piece that leaves our shop doors.
We manufacture some of the finest cherry, maple and walnut furniture available anywhere. Starting with the very best wood, from the western Pennsylvania cherry forests to the maple hardwood groves of Vermont, we match color and wood grain in each piece to produce a seamless and elegant feel and appearance. The cherry we use is exclusively heartwood—the salmon color wood that achieves a deep rich patina with time. Hard maple is always the figured golden-color sapwood. With walnut we select and match the deeply rich chocolate color heartwood.
Each piece is meticulously and critically examined from the action of a drawer or door to the satin-like feel of a chest top. Our dedication to consistency allows customers to collect pieces from us over the years, assured that pieces purchased a year or more apart will nestle together as if made at the same time.
As you review photographs of individual pieces, you will see our Traditional Shaker, Canterbury, Harvest Moon, Gamble, and Horizon styles presented with an honest and delicate design. It is the way furniture used to be made.
Our Vermont Quality
The Green Mountain state of Vermont is home to a long and skilled tradition of woodworking and furniture making of the highest standards. This adage still holds true. We have been fortunate to hire and retain highly skilled woodworkers with a deep dedication to quality and refinement in furniture building. We work hard and play plenty. A strong work ethic combined with ingenuity in building furniture is a given for everyone working here.
Environmental Commitment
We believe in harvesting wood in a responsible manner to preserve forests for future generations. Whenever possible we buy wood and support organizations with this goal in mind.
This is a part of the Vermonter mindset going back generations. It includes a deep respect for the land and trees that makes this state so unique in our country. We have worked with hardwood brokers and sawmills for decades, establishing close working relationships with those intimately involved in forest management and sustainability.
The base finish in all our furniture is a non-toxic, zero VOC (volatile organic compounds) Danish oil based on the carriage oils of the 1800’s. It is a linseed oil based finish. We augment higher wear surfaces with polyurethane oil that cures completely before leaving our shop.
We consider wood is a living and breathing material after it is fashioned into furniture and recommend hydrating your furniture periodically with high quality furniture grade oil.
